What this quote is trying to say is that  we need to have the responsibility to make our own choices to be doing the right or doing the wrong. For example you wish you were like the kool kids the ones who did drug drink alcohol ditch never did the h.w but it's your decision to make if you want to go on the right path way in which just ignore them never pay attention  to them or be just like them little dumb kids that don't anything. So is your decision to be like some you don't want to be or unique be yourself. It is your responsibility in which way you want to go good side or bad side.
